# A Pintura Alternative for Your App

Embed Editor is an image editor you embed in your own app, as Pintura is. In the editor itself it ties or wins. Around it, Pintura is ahead, and this page says where. Facts about Pintura are as of October 2026.

## Where Embed Editor Is Ahead

- Adjustments and Auto: Twelve adjustments and a one-tap Auto. Pintura has six and a vignette, and no Auto, as of October 2026.
- A Crop That Finds the Subject: Focus puts the crop window on the photo subject, and a new ratio lands on what matters.
- Formats: HEIC, AVIF and SVG open directly. In Pintura, HEIC takes code you write, as of October 2026.
- Annotations: Numbered steps with their list, a ruler, a magnifier, and elbow arrows that stay glued to the pieces they point at. Pintura draws rectangles, circles, lines, arrows, text and freehand, as of October 2026.
- Obfuscate: Blur, pixelate or a solid cover in black or any color, in three shapes and with a strength. Pintura redacts by blur only, as of October 2026.
- Your Brand in the Editor: Your logo and company name in the editor bar (logo, logoText) and a signature the user places, besides the watermark. Pintura lists the watermark alone, as of October 2026.
- Compare, Copy and Share: Hold the photo to compare with the original, and Copy and Share besides Save. Pintura lists none of the three, as of October 2026.
- An iPhone Feel: Every change settles with a spring, drags carry on with momentum, and on a phone the editor opens as a bottom sheet.

## Where Pintura Is Ahead

- Track Record: Pintura has sold since 2018, with thousands of companies and hundreds of reviews, as of October 2026. Embed Editor is new and has no customer references yet. For a company putting a component inside its product, this weighs the most.
- Video: Pintura sells video editing as an extension. Embed Editor edits photos only.
- Stickers and Retouch: Pintura has stickers, and a Retouch tool that connects the editor to an AI service you run, to remove objects or fill by text. Our inpaint is planned, with no date.
- Customization: In Pintura you bring your own filters and fonts, swap the icons, set the list of ratios and add crop guides, such as an avatar circle or a print margin. Ours are fixed.
- Languages: The Pintura page lists more built-in languages than Embed Editor, as of October 2026. Embed Editor ships three, and takes any other through the lang prop.
- Official Integrations: Pintura has adapters for Vue, Angular, Svelte, Alpine, jQuery and custom elements, and upload libraries such as FilePond, Dropzone and Uppy. Embed Editor has React and a standalone entry, with examples for Vue, Angular and Svelte.
- EXIF: Pintura copies the EXIF data into the saved file. Embed Editor does not.

## One Project, Unlimited Developers

- Pintura: Per Developer: Pintura sells its Developer plan per developer, with unlimited products, as of October 2026. The bill grows with the team.
- Embed Editor: Per Project: Full covers one project with unlimited developers. Full Unlimited covers a company with unlimited projects, its own and its clients, and unlimited developers. A new hire costs nothing.
- If You Stop Paying: Both let you keep using the last version you received if you stop paying. Embed Editor is perpetual use plus 12 months of updates and support.
- Platforms: A platform that hands the editor to its own customers to build into their products needs a contract, at Pintura as at Embed Editor (Full OEM). An app where users edit photos inside your own product does not.

## Moving from Pintura

Pass a state saved with Pintura to the state prop as it is. No conversion step: a state without a version field is read as a Pintura state.

### What Carries Over

- Crop, Rotation and Flips: The crop (read in the photo px), its turn (radians become degrees), the flips and the crop ratio.
- Redactions: Obfuscate areas, pixelated as Pintura drew them, each with its rotation kept.
- Target Size: The output size, never past 16.7 MP.

### What Is Dropped

A photo saved with a Pintura filter, adjustments or frame opens without them. The person sees the crop and redactions, and can reapply the look with the editor tools. Annotations, decorations, background color, crop limits and video fields are not read.

### After the First Save

The next Save writes the photo state as an EditState with version 3. Store it in place of the Pintura state, and from then on the photo reopens with every edit. outputQuality runs from 0 to 100, so multiply a Pintura quality of 0 to 1 by 100.

### Is Embed Editor a drop-in replacement for Pintura?

Mostly. Embed Editor has more adjustments, Auto, a crop that finds the subject, richer annotations, three obfuscate styles, your brand in the bar and Copy, Share and compare. Pintura is ahead on track record, video, stickers, AI retouch, customization, official integrations for more frameworks and EXIF.

### Will my saved Pintura edits open?

Yes, the crop, rotation, flips, ratio, redactions and target size. Filters, adjustments and frames are dropped, since the two editors share none of them. The migration guide lists each field.

### How is the license different?

Per project, not per developer. Full covers one project with unlimited developers, and Full Unlimited covers a company with unlimited projects. The pricing page has the numbers.

### Can I try it before I switch?

The Free edition is free for commercial use and has the Adjust tool: crop, zoom, straighten, rotate and flip. It adds a small embededitor.com badge. Open the playground to try the Trial with every tool.

### Does Embed Editor have AI retouch?

Not yet. Our inpaint is planned with no date. If AI retouch is a must today, Pintura is ahead.
